And each time I keep my fingers crossed and pray they come close to honoring the source material. Even though I no longer write fiction, I still enjoy re-reading Lovecraft and I still get a hard-on every time I hear about a filmmaker adapting yet another one of this tales for either movies or TV. My writings were mostly sexual horror, a kind of cross between Lovecraft and Barker.
I re-read portions of them years ago and, oh, God, they’re bad. I managed to pen, though, two unpublished novels (Drawing Flies & That Which Lies Upon) which will never see the light of day, if I have anything to say about it. To date I only managed to get three short tales published before the horror fiction writing bug died and I turned my attention to movie reviewing. My “success” as a writer unfortunately didn’t go far.
Before I got into reviewing movies I planned to be a horror writer, and Lovecraft was one of the authors I bumped into early in life and one of three who influenced my fiction.
